Why do relationships define our lives?
We all know that it can be the case… Are we single? Are we dating? Are we looked at as a couple? Are we looked at as married?
All of these things are amazing and can be viewed as great or terrible depending on the state of your relationship. The problem happens when we let ourselves become defined by our relationships instead of individually defining our own lives. When you put so much into your relationship that it becomes more important than your relationship with your internal spiritual self is when there is an issue.
This is a year of dramatic psychological transition for many, so the safety net this year will be revoked in many ways. It’s up to us to become what we want as individuals and uphold our promise to our soul development before most otherworldly responsibilities. If we do not honor our internal conscious voice and spiritual guidance, relationships will usually fall apart anyways…
So if you find yourself more interested in working on a relationship than you are working on your own spiritual self, then you will usually run into problems. Counseling-type situations happen when people stop spiritually developing independently and instead start projecting their neuroses onto one another in the form of cheating, lying, acting out, not honoring promises, and lacking accountability. The spiritual directed person always tries to do what they say and say what they mean. This, of course, seems simple, but in a twisted world, trying to do these simple things can become complex. Even if a relationship is just totally useless, the spiritual directed person will know the right time to gracefully exit, instead of waiting for it to get to a fever pitch.
The key is knowing yourself, if you don’t know yourself, then knowing another is not all that possible. They are usually just reflections of you in some way anyhow, hence it’s like looking outside of yourself to find yourself in essence… It all comes down to becoming the person you would want to be in a relationship with, then you can usually find that out in the real world!
Hope you guys are doing well out there and enjoying this crazy year!
